Elfa Closet

I’ve been debating on closet systems for a couple of years now and the thought of not being able to rearrange my closet shelving depending on what I buy or decide to get rid of….just makes me anxious and cringe a little. I’ve been eyeballing the Elfa system from the container store for a while. The Avera really caught my eye the most but while it looks like you can rearrange it, you actually can’t. It’s also not possible to order additional shelving. That was slightly disappointing. Also, for what it is, it’s grossly overpriced, in my opinion. The Avera vs the Elsa cost was 9k vs 2k. The Elfa is inexpensive in comparison to other custom closet options but it’s not exactly the cheapest option available. I’ve weighed the pros and cons of a variety of closet options and I’ve went with Elfa because it’s lightweight and I know with new home builds, that can be a factor because newer homes aren’t built as sturdy with the flooring capable of supporting oversized loads. While ours is built to carry larger loads. I don’t want to push it after installing over 3k pounds of tile and a 300 pound bath tub. The closet isn’t overly large but it needs better organization than we currently have. That’s all I’m truly looking for with the ability to move things around.

Elfa pros:

  • Lightweight
  • Movable shelves
  • Moveable system (great for rentals)
  • Affordable

Cons:

  • Limited color options (I wish black was available)
  • No soft close drawers
  • Drawer body is plastic and could use an option for upgrading
  • No lighting options

Before

We had wire shelving, no real designated areas for shoes or bags. Overall very meh, dated, unorganized, and boring.

After

Slightly more room, designated areas, overall better aesthetic.
