Buxton Beauty

This little gem sits on the sound side of the Outer Banks. I’m personally not the biggest fan of the waves, and sand in the southern heat. I love the sound of the water, the crashing waves and waking on the beach in the early morning and evenings but I’m more interactive when I don’t have to exert a lot of effort for entertaining myself and others. Carrying supplies down to the beach and back up is no fun. This year, I accidentally wandered upon this spacious sound-side house. I was looking for something smaller, just for the two of us within the price range of around 200 a night that was pet friendly in October, which is riiiight when the off-season begins. The perfect beach weather, in my opinion.

Out of curiosity, I decided to click on larger homes in the 500-1000 per night range just to see what was offered for larger families, perhaps we wanted to invite friends or family. To my surprise, this house was in the range I was originally searching at. I was floored. COVID pricing, obviously. I snatched it up before even really consulting the husband. It was only available for that one week in October. The whole year was already booked up. I was afraid if I waited, it would be gone. I’m so glad I didn’t hesitate. This property is offered on Surf or Sound Realty listed under Buxton Beauty but I booked on VACASA  It features 3 King Sized beds (a king size bed is very important to us after our last vacation rental experience). It sits on the water with easy access to fishing, crabbing, kayaking, etc. Best of all, it’s PET FRIENDLY, which is one of the most important factors to us next to having a king sized bed.

House Amenities

We really enjoyed the secluded location of this place. Sure there wasn’t a lot of entertainment to be offered as far as stores and restaurants go, but we live in an abundance of good food and travel to a lot of places with good food as well.  The home itself boasted incredible sound views, kayaks, plenty of outdoor seating, and fully stocked kitchen wares. The location was easy to get to and the road was well maintained. There was also a spacious hot tub that was well kept, however, the smell of chlorine was a bit too much for me.

Fishing

One of my most fond childhood memories was fishing with my father, whether it was out on the lake or the ocean. Of course I complained a lot about it when I was younger, but I’m thankful for that time spent and knowledge gathered from it. Fishing is easily on of my favorite activities when I get the opportinuty. We caught quite an interesting variety ranging from eel, crab, and to puffer fish. While there wasn’t a lot of larger fish, we still enjoyed it.

Buxton Lighthouse, Buxton Beach, and Avon Pier

Unfortunately, we didn’t have the absolute best weather when we arrived for the first few days. When we were finally able to get out, we wanted to give the puppers some exercise and explore the area some.

Where We Ate

There’s not a lot offered in Buxton, at least not a large variety. However, we quickly found the preprepared food section at the grocery store, a seafood market, coffee/breakfast shop and a place for dinner.
