Friday Harbor
This town was very quaint. Boats coming in and out with the smell of sea all around. This was the town we stayed in because we were only there for a day to watch whales. My absolute favorite part of this trip.We hopped on a small sea plane booked via San Juan Safaris, out of Seattle and took the hour long ride to San Juan Islands. We explored the town and whale museum and had a small snack before boarding the boat.
Orca Whale Watching
as previously mentioned, we booked with San Juan Safaris. They have an amazing group of people that give great tours and an abundance on information. It took about another hour or getting to a good spot. We traveled along the Canadian border, hugging closely along Victoria along the Haro Strait that goes into the Strait of Juan de Fuca. That’s the area we saw the most whales. It was mating season, so there was a lot of activity and some got really close. It was truly a great experience that I would recommend to anyone. We also got to see a lot of seal lions and walrus along with spotting some eagles. We learned eagles are actually scavengers but will hunt when necessary…they prefer to eat something they didn’t have to work for, though.
